Christian Hough – Photographing Fashion One Light at a Time

Bowens photographer and lighting educator Christian Hough takes us behind the scenes into the lighting aspects of shooting a fashion project including the different tools and techniques.

On this video Hough takes us through a step-by-step commercial fashion shoot using a mixture of monolight strobes and generator power packs. Hough demonstrates the importance of using the right lighting modifier at the right time, in the right place.

Hough explains in detail each part of his lighting setup and describes how and why he uses each light shaper including specifically why he used a snoot attachment to concentrate and focus light on the model as well as the different benefits of the 21″ beauty dish as a hair light. Finally  explores and explains his unique and unconventional approach to lighting backgrounds with Hough looks at the use of a Reflector for lighting the background.

photographer Jay P. Morgan did an entire video on snoots, what they are and how to use them if you are interested in the topic.

As always, you can find many more behind the scenes videos on the BTS section. You can also find many more lighting videos on our photography lighting section, here on LensVid.
