CN-90F Review – a $35 Follow Focus – Is it Any Good?

Filmaker Scott Eggleston loves low budget accessories and on this video he looks at a very low cost follow focus unit for videographers on a (very) tight budget.

Follow focus units are very useful when you want to precisely control the focus (some units can also control the zoom function) of your lens without touching it. Advanced follow focus devices have been in use in the film industry for decades but most of them are big, heavy and very expensive. In recent years we have been seeing many low budget solutions and on this video Eggleston looks at the CN-90F – a sub $40 simple (plasticky) follow focus that seems to do the job.

Neewer – the manufacturer of the CN-90F actually has an entire line of follow focus units – some of them seems to be of much higher build quality than the CN-90F (and cost about 3 times as much). Eggleston remarked in the video that the CN-90F had a little bit too much play with the knob – apparently he found a solution which you can read about on his blog.
