6 Motorised Camera Gimbals: Review And Comparison

On this video  photographer Lee Morris (co-founder of fstoppers.com) takes a look at no less than 6 different motorised gimbals for cameras to see which one is the best.

Morris recently received the Panasonic GH5 and decided to do a test and see which of the of the gimbals will work best with the camera. The reason why the camera matters is that the GH5 has a screen which extends to the left and as you can see in the video – many of the gimbals will simply not support this (of course you don’t have to open the screen but than you can’t really work in selfie mode or change the angle – of course with tilt screens on some of the Sony and other cameras – this is less of a problem).

The gimbals on this test are:

  • Came TV Came Single
  • ikan DS1
  • ikan EC1
  • Feiyu MG Lite
  • Glide gear gimbal
  • Zhiyun-Tech Crane

There are still a lot of gimbals missing (nebula-4200 for example) but at the end of the day the Zhiyun-Tech Crane turns out to be the best all around gimbal – this is not a huge surprise since we have published several vdieos of this product which got a glowing reviews). The Zhiyun-Tech Crane is also one of the least expensive in the group at $650).
