Building Your Commerical and Wedding Photography Kit

Young wedding and commercial photographer from Seattle Ben Lucas (from Tuts+) started his professional career with a very basic photography kit and improved it as he progressed. On this video he talks about the evolution of his gear and why he choose to buy specific things.

Lucas talks about his cameras, lenses, lighting equipment (everything from from light stands and sandbags to flashes and even carrying bags). What we liked about this video is that all the gear talk is combined with Lucas’ personal story of advancing in his career which might be pretty similar to that of other photographers (especially event shooters).

Especially interesting are the kind of gear which ultimately didn’t really last – like Lucas’ experience with the kaktus remote trigger which he replaced for a kit of pocketwizard remotes. As things goes these days Lucas also started shooting video and from around 13:00 he talks about video and audio.

Besides the gear Lucas integrates some of his images which he shot using the gear – some of these really speak from themselves.
