There were a number of very interesting upcoming products on display on NAB last week – one of them was not even a physical product but actually an upcoming piece of software by the guys at FilmConvert who showed an early version of what they call Cinematch – a smart plugin which will allow you to automatically match the colors of a shot done with one camera that those done with a different type or even brand of camera.
If you ever used two different types of cameras to shoot a project and had to match colors manually you know what a pain that can be. Even with cameras from the same manufacturer colors rarely match and if you are using different brands you have your work cut out for you.
In the demo shown in the video above Cinematch demoed piece of software that takes footage from a Panasonic GH5, a Fuji X-T2, a Sony A7s, and an iPhone and matched them in just about 6 seconds – this looks pretty amazing and can save video editors a ton of time in post production.
The company is working on a plug-in for Premiere which they say will launch this November – we are looking forward to that and I am sure many others in the industry are as well.
