NAB 2024 Announcements Roundup What's new in NAB 2024

NAB 2024 is over and there have been a huge number of announcements before and during the show from almost every manufacturer in the industry with some interesting surprises. We take a look at some of the products that we found particularly interesting.

For this talk, we have with us photographer Lewis Michelson who will share some of his thoughts about the new announcements at this year’s show.

Cameras

There were quite a few cameras announced during (and shortly before) NAB 2024. Here are a few of them:

  • Insta360 X4 (01:23): The newest Insta 360 camera is the X4 with an impressive 8K 30fps, 72MP video shooting capability up to 4K @100fps, improved battery, and larger screen as well as new AI features. The X4 is already available for purchase for $500.

  • Blackmagic (03:12) – The company really went above and beyond this year with new products in NAB, announcing a huge number of products in different categories (see a full, very long, video here). We will focus on new cameras and there are 3 of those. The future (still in the early prototype stage) Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K (with a huge 65mm sensor). This will allow you to shoot for the Sphere or Imax and also crop significantly while keeping the resolution high. It will have a special LPL mount and very little else can be said about it at the moment (CineD recorded an interview about it) but it will build upon the other new camera announced for the show, the new 12K looks similar to the outside but has a more conventional full-frame sensor. Blackmagic also announced a Pyxis 6K box camera (albeit with a relatively low 13 stops of dynamic range) but with a very attractive price of around $3K. Many other new Blackmagic products include a new beta version of Resolve.
