First Look at the 8Sinn Panasonic GH5 Cage

During BVE 2017 held in the U.K. recently Polish cage manufacturer announced what might be the first dedicated GH5 cage. Dan Chung from newsshooter had a chance to take a first hands on look.

The GH5 will start shipping by the end of this month but the first accessories are starting to appear from it and the interesting one we have today is a dedicated cage. The new cage from 8Sinn which specialises in very sleek dedicated cages for a small number of popular cameras has a nice space style sculpted design which allow for easy grip as well as full rotation of the flip screen.

You can get this cage alone or with two types of optional handles as well as rails that can be added for additional cost.

There are two things that we would like to see (both on this cage and in most cages in general), the first is some smart cable lock mechanism (on this cage the area where the cables go is wide open which is nice on one hand but offers no real locking solution). The second thing (which is more of a personal preference of ours) is a built in quick release system (we prefer the Manfrotto RC2 as we explained recently). This way we can take the camera of the cage quickly if we want to use it without the cage for shooting stills for example (although to be fair – with this type of compact cage you can pretty much still use the camera with the cage for stills as long as you don’t put too much stuff on it (but after all isn’t that a big part of why you use a cage in the first place?).

Getting back to the 8Sinn GH5 cage – it is still not available – like the camera itself – but you can pre-order it starting at just under $200.

We will be looking into several monitors in the near future so stay tuned for that. If you don’t want to miss any new photography product be sure to check out our product photography section.
