Flexible LED Light: FalconEyes RX 18TD Hands on Review

Our colleague photographer and videographer Curtis Judd, recently published a very positive review of a new Flexible LED made by the Hong-Kong-based manufacturer FalconEyes.

Judd takes a look at the new FalconEyes RX 18TD although the company does sell an even larger flexible panel called RX-24TDX (which is 63cm by 63cm or 24×24 inches) which is even more powerful.

The FalconEyes RX 18TD comes with a power brick and a control unit which has a small touchscreen (we typically prefer good old fashion metal knobs) but the unit as a whole feels sturdy according to Judd and it quite light and compact which is what you are looking for with this type of light.

Here are some of the official specs for the FalconEyes RX 18TD:

  • CRI: 95
  • Splash proof
  • Color Temperature: 3000K – 5600K
  • Beam Angle 10-360°
  • Power consumption: 100W
  • Number of LEDS: 504 LEDs.
  • Light output – 3660 lux at 1m.
  • Dimensions: 61x46cm.
  • Price: $300.

We have recently looked at a different flexible LED by Intellytech (see our FL-80 Flexible LED review) and we shall be looking at more flexible LED options in the not too distant future. We feel that flexible LEDs provide an optimal solution for mobile shooters and these light have been consistently improving both in terms of power, built quality and functionality and in terms of color accuracy in the last couple of years.
