Godox SZ300R – Taking RGB to the Next Level Godox RGBW COB doubles in power

In anticipation of NAB 2023 which will start this weekend in Las Vegas, Godox has introduced a new, more powerful RGBW COB light – the all-new Godox SZ300R.

A bigger brother to the Godox SZ150R

Back in 2021, Godox introduced its first RGB COB light. That was a groundbreaking affordable model unlike almost anything available on the market at the time (to some degree this light is still unique in its price range).

We tested the SZ150R when it came out and were very impressed with its performance (see the full review). Our only wish was that Godox will come out with a more powerful version which is exactly what the company did with the new SZ300R.

Externally the new Godox SZ300R looks very similar to the SZ150R. The changes have to do with the more powerful chip which now can change color all the way from 2500K to 10,000K temperatures and outputs up to 48,100 lux at 1m/3.3′ (5600K) with its included reflector (around 6800lux bare), both are much higher than the SZ150R.

Like its smaller brother the user can choose between RGB, HSI, CCT, and GEL modes, it has 14 built-in special effects including broken bulbs, candles, cloudy, explosions, flash, fire, fireworks, lightning, party, police car, RGB cycle, television, welding, and SOS.

The light includes a 20° to a wide 65° zoom function which allows the user to focus the light which can be controlled via Bluetooth, and the Godox useful 2.4 GHz wireless remote control as well as DMX. With BT you can use the Godox Light app to change the different parameters of the SZ300R.

According to Godox the light pays a lot of attention to noise and has a silent mode for sound-sensitive shooting (up to 30% power). The light comes with a power brick but it has a v-mount and you are supplied with a light stand v-mount adapter which comes in the included carrying case.

The SZ300R can be pre-ordered for $730. We are still not sure when it will start selling but we expect it to demo in NAB 2023 for the first time.
