Smallrig VB99 PRO and Camera Batteries (IBC 2023) Next generation V-mount

During IBC 2023 SmallRig announced several new products including an updated V-mount Line. We also had a chance to check out the company’s line of USB chargeable camera batteries for different brands.

SmallRig VB99 PRO

SmallRig already had a successful series of V-mount batteries including three different capacities and, the new Pro series introduced at IBC this year includes several improvements over the previous generation.

The new Pro series has aluminum housing and clearer markings in the front. It also has a new larger color screen which displays the draw out of each output.

Talking about outputs it now has two DC out (8/12V) dual USB-C PD outputs (which can also charge the battery) and a USB-A out as well as a D-tap. According to SmallRig, you can use several of those outputs at max power at the same time (something that was not possible with the previous generation).

Another small but important improvement concerns the battery status indicator on the new screen. Instead of a simple percentage, it shows the amount of run time left based on the current power draw (with the connected devices).

At the moment there is only a single capacity from the pro series – the VB99 which is a 100Wh battery is currently the only Pro VB battery but we find it logical to assume that both higher and lower capacity variants will be introduced at some point in the future.

The SmallRig VB99 PRO battery should be available for purchase very soon for a price of around $300.

SmallRig Camera battery USB-C series

While this series has been around for a few months now, this was the first time that we had a chance to see it in person. The series includes different camera batteries for the most popular brands including Canon, Nikon, and Sony as well as Larger NP-F and other popular larger batteries.

Besides the pale blue color what differentiates this series from many of the existing 3‘rd party alternatives on the market is the ability to charge them directly via USB-C eliminating the need for a dedicated battery charger.

You can order some of the new USB-C camera batteries from B&H.
