Prolycht Orion 300 – the RGBW COB Option Finally extreme color temperature range & RGBW capabilities in a COB at an accesiable price

Innovation in the LED industry is increasing at a fast pace and more and more companies are producing high-quality products with new features and capabilities. The newest light from Prolycht called Orion 300 is the first COB in its class to offer not just extreme color temperature range but also RGBW capabilities in an attractive and powerful portable unit.

Prolycht – a lighting startup

Prolycht is a new startup company that focuses on lights and lighting accessories. Although the Orion 300 is the company’s first COB light, it is not the first light that it has made and it is already selling a powerful RGBAW 250W Thunder Lite LED panel. The company has its origins in China but is currently based in Santa Clara, CA.

Orion 300 Main specs

The official specs of the Orion 300 are promising as a ~300W light it is rated as producing 30,000 lux at 1m away with a CRI of 96 and a TLCI  of 96 as well. No less impressive is the temperature range. the Orion 300 can move between 2000K and 20,000K and this is the first COB in its category that we are aware of that can do that.

The most innovative aspect of the Orion 300 in our view is the RGBW capabilities it brings to the table. According to Matt Allard from newsshooter who had a chance to perform an in-depth review of a pre-production unit, the Orion 300 uses Red, Green, Blue, Amber, Cyan, and Lime LEDs to produce white light – just like the new and much larger (and much more expensive) ARRI Orbiter.

The Orion 300 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and DMX and has a simple to use app for control over most of its features. It has a lamp head and a controller/power supply unit with 2 v-lock batteries (it also comes with a mounting bracket for the power supply) as well as a carying case.

The unit is pretty light compared to many other ~300W LEDs with the head weighing 3.5kg/7.7lbs and the controller 3.2kg/7lbs.

Pricing and availability

As for pricing, the Prolycht Orion 300 is set very competitive if you consider how innovative it is and its special list of features (especially the wide color range and RGB functionality on a COB light which at the moment simply doesn’t exist in any light in its price/size category). Current pricing is set at $1950 and is available for pre-order (and is said to ship in mid-January 2021).
