How do you create a dark for a metal band? you pick one of the most talented young photographers around – Benjamin Von Wong and a whole team of models, makeup artists and special effects people to create an epic post-apocalyptic world.

In order to celebrate the addition of a new member to their band – Vicky Psarakis, Canadian metal band The Agonist  needed some brand new imagery to make the announcement – so they naturally called Von Wong with whom they have worked successfully in the past.

von-wohn-the-agonyThe BTS video you see above, shot by Niko Sarki takes a look at a small part of the 14 hour grueling shot done by Von Wong and his team with the band. In such a complex project many things needed to be prepared and planned in advance although as it always happen on location things tend to go their own way sometimes.

On his blog, Von Wong explains more about the production and the lighting used in the making of this complex shoot (which is surprisingly not that complex). He also shares some initial concept sketches and artwork which inspired him for the shoot.
