Aputure STORM 1200x and Infinamat Lights (IBC 2024) A storm is coming!

During IBC 2024, we interviewed Ted Sim, the CEO of Aputure, about the all-new Aputure Storm 1200X and the Infinimat line.

After years of incremental changes, Aputure finally unveiled a brand new lighting technology called the BLAIR Chip Project. To celebrate this the name of the first light that uses this technology also changed from Light Storm to Storm and will be part of a future family of light under this title.

So what is new with the BLAIR Chip Project? this technology incorporates a full-spectrum chipset with advanced dimming technology including blue, lime, amber, indigo, and red LEDs that combine a new level of color accuracy and output.

The STORM 1200x Bi-Color (2500 to 10,000K) itself is very robust with IP65-rated construction (rainproof) and has an official rating of 87 SSI rating at 3200 and 5600K color temperatures and has step-less dimming going all the way from 0.1 to 100%, and flicker-free, color-accurate operation.

The light supports both wired and wireless control options using different protocols, including DMX, LumenRadio CRMX, Art-Net, and sACN Ethernet, and app control via Bluetooth and the Sidus Link and Sidus Link Pro apps.

The STORM 1200x features a Bowens S mount with Aputure’s PL style lock, allowing for broad compatibility of Bowens modifiers with secure locking.

The STORM 1200x is already available for order for just under $3000.

Infinimat

The second product that was first shown in ANB 2024 is the Infinimat series. These inflatable lights come in 1’x2′, 1’x4′, 2’x4′, 4’x4′, 8’x8′, and a massive 20’x20′ that we saw on the ceiling at the Aputure booth in IBC and was extremely impressive.

What was special in the demo of the infinimat at IBC was the station that controlled the huge 20×20 unit above our heads. The software was developed by Assimilate and it allows a huge amount of control of pixilated lights including drag-and-drop video files into an array of pixilated lights like the infinimats to help create a timed lighting effect in coordination with virtual productions and LED walls.
