During IBC 2024 we visited the Dedolight booth and talked with cinematographer Alexander Berkovich about the Eflect system, what it can do, and how to use it.
Eflect boards
As Mr. Berkovich mentioned so eloquently in our video, the Eflect system isn’t new and its history goes back many decades to what was known in Hollywood as a “broken mirror” and was made of indeed made of broken pieces of mirrors put together and used with gloves to prevent bruising. The modern version is a flexible, light, and easy-to-use multi-mirror reflector that comes in different sizes and colors.
The Dedolight Eflect boards come in different sizes (from 8″-31″) as well as different “colors” and/or patterns with each creating a different effect. Dedolight describes the effect of the Eflect boards as “sun bouncing off water, seen through a gentle diffusion” but you can get different effects depending on the specific way you use the boards.
The Dedolight Eflect boards can be used to create more interesting backgrounds but can even be used to add light to your subject if the scene calls for that.
You can find more info on the Eflect boards on the Dedolight website.
