During IBC 2023 SmallRig announced several new products including its first LED COB with an internal battery – the SmallRig RC60.
SmallRig SmallRig RC60
We have tested some of SmallRig’s existing lights including the SmallRig RC 220B and more recently the high-power SmallRig RC350D.
The new RC light is a smaller and less powerful unit however it has a big advantage that no other SmallRig light has at the moment – it includes an internal battery that can power the light at full power (60w) for around 40 min.
The light has all sorts of interesting features including a nice screen on the side, a simple interface with two quality knobs to control the power and temperature (2700K-6500K), and USB-C charge and power. This last option means that you can power the light from a USB-C power bank (or as seen on IBC this year using SmallRig’s new V-mount VB99 Pro which has two USB-C PD ports) making it truly portable.
SmallRig even made a special battery holder that sits on the back of the light for power banks (it can hold a V-mount but honestly there are better options for that both from SmallRig and other manufacturers.

The light has all the common effects as well as an interesting feature that can show the runtime based on the current power output (see image).

The output of the light with a reflector according to SmallRig from 1m aay is 13,000 Lux which is quite impressive (although we would need to verify this of course in our studio if we get the light for review later on this year).
The mount for the new light is a mini Bowens and the company is working on a mini Bowens to full-size Bowens adapter. At the moment there is a mini softbox and a mini reflector that can work with the new light (and in theory the RC60 should work with other mini Bowens accessories as well).
Pricing and Availability
The new SmallRig RC60 should be available during October 2023 and the light will be priced at under $200.
