SmallRig x CineD OrBrella Light First Look (IBC 2026)

Lighting equipment setup has long been one of the most tedious parts of a videographer’s workflow—requiring separate light stands, bulky COB units, modifier rings, diffusion cloths, and softboxes that take precious minutes to assemble. Addressing this pain point directly, SmallRig has teamed up with CineD (based on a design by Johnnie Behiri of the CineD team) to introduce an innovative, highly portable 2-in-1 lighting solution: the OrBrella FM 60B.

Still in its pre-launch and crowdfunding phase, this unique umbrella-style fixture aims to completely redefine mobile and solo-creator lighting by cutting setup times down to just 5 seconds.

The Concept: Born from Real-World Filmmaking Frustrations

After years of discussing the lack of genuine innovation and speed in portable lighting formats on their productions and documentary work, the CineD team partnered with SmallRig to bring a practical vision to life. The core idea behind the Orbrella is simple: professional-grade soft illumination should not require a sprawling bag of accessories or a lengthy rigging process.

Portable design

SmallRig-OrBrella---compactKey Features & Design Highlights

  • Lightning-Fast “Uno-Fold” Setup: Utilizing a patented umbrella-style quick-deploy structure, the entire light fixture opens up and is ready for action in a mere 5  seconds.

  • Innovative 4-in-1 Light Shaping (Snap-Switch™): The unit features eight LED ribs that fire inward into a 47cm white dome, creating an ultra-soft, flattering bounce source that virtually eliminates harsh shadows. However, if you need more punch or a harder, more directional light, the USB-C-connected LED panels can be flipped outward or used without the diffusion layers.

  • Bi-Color Performance & High CRI: The 60W bi-color LED source offers continuous color temperature adjustment ranging from 2700K to 6500K, allowing creators to seamlessly match warm interior spaces or cool daylight. A high-CRI coating ensures accurate color reproduction and natural-looking skin tones on camera.

  • Ultra-Portable & Lightweight: When folded down, the Orbrella measures just 34 cm (13.4 inches) and tips the scales at roughly 1.3 kg (2.87 lbs), making it compact enough to slide comfortably into a standard camera backpack.

  • Flexible Power Options: Designed for location shooters, the light supports 12–30V DC power adapters and can run for over two hours on a single 99Wh V-mount battery.

The compact controller

  • SmallRig-OrBrella---controllerSmart Control: In addition to manual on-unit adjustments, creators can seamlessly control lighting parameters remotely using SmallRig’s SmallGoGo app, which also grants access to nine built-in lighting effects.

  • All-in-one design – unlike other lights which require the head, a ballast, and a softbox or reflector – the Orbrella has all the components in one part (sort of). The softbox is the head, and the controller and battery are connected.

Both direct and reflected light options
