During IBC 2023 we had a chance to talk to Kinson Loo, CEO of Z CAM about the company’s new Z CAM E2-M5G 5K equipped with a micro 4/3 sensor with global shutter and capable of shooting up to 5K at 60p (and even faster at lower resolutions).
Z CAM E2-M5G 5K
The new Z CAM E2-M5G 5K is not the first global shutter camera that Z Cam is releasing. The company also has the Z CAM E2-S6G in its range that can shoot up to 6K 50p (or 4K 70p) with a larger S35 sensor (with a higher price tag).
The Z CAM E2-M5G 5K is designed to be a more affordable option with a smaller sensor and slightly higher frame rates as well as a very high dynamic range of 16 stops according to Z Cam.

Like other Z Cam cameras, the Z CAM E2-M5G 5K has an interchangeable mount (active 43) which can be changed to a separately available Z CAM Turbo mount, ARRI PL, or Leica M lens mount.
The E2-M5G records on a CFast 2.0 card up to 5K60 or up to 4K 116p (2.4:1), as well as up to DCI/UHD 4K 94p resolutions. The sensor has dual-gain ISO and the camera features an HDMI output, user-customizable function buttons, 3.5mm mic and headphone jacks, 5-pin mini-XLR, 2.5mm LANC port, USB-C for control and external recording, and serial I/O ports as well as an Ethernet port and Wi-Fi function for remote control and streaming.
Like other Z Cam cameras, the new camera can be powered using its 2-pin input or via its L-series battery, and it also features a 2-pin 12V aux power port.
