How to Fake Motion in a Photograph in Photoshop

On this video Colin Smith from PhotoshopCAFE shows how to make a car look like its moving. This Photoshop tutorial shows you how to work with motion blur and make wheels look like they are turning.

The basis for this video is just a simple car in a parking lot and the idea is to use blur effects to trick your mind into thinking that it is actually in motion. This is more simple than you might think – you need to give the area around the car bluey and after we blur the background we need to be able to work on the wheels to make them look as if they are spinning (Smith shows how to do this in two different – both very simple – ways).

If you are into capturing actual motion in your shots – take a look at “Joe McNally: How to Show Motion in Stills” and Kevin Wing “Tips for Shooting Vehicles in Motion“.
