Canon G1 X Mark II Hands-On Review

A few months ago Canon introduced the G1 X Mark II – a second generation large sensor compact camera. The new version promised to improve some of the problems with the older version and Chris Niccolls from from the Camera Store in Canada took it for a spin.

Niccolls is known for being ruthless in his reviews (just watch his field review of the Sony QX100) and this one is a pretty good example on how he is not afraid to voice his opinion on what he believe is not a very attractive offering from Canon in compression to the competition.

Here is a recap of some of the main features of the Canon G1 X Mark II:

  • 12.8MP large (1.5″) CMOS Sensor.
  • DIGIC 6 Image Processor.
  • Canon 5x Optical Zoom with 24-120mm f/2-3.9 (35mm Equivalent) Stabilized Lens.
  • LCD: 3.0″ 1,040k-Dot Tilt Touchscreen.
  • Full HD 1080p Video @30 fps.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi with NFC.
  • Continuous Shooting speed: 5.2 fps.
  • Dual Control Rings.
  • Price: $800 (at B&H).
