Canon PowerShot G3 X:Premium High Zoom First Look

Earlier today Canon introduced its first large sensor high power zoom compact camera – the PowerShot G3 X and we have the first official video and some info.

Canon could not sit on the fence and let Sony and Panasonic take all the advanced super-zoom market for themselves so it introduced a new 1 inch sensor member of the Gx X family – the G3 X.

The G3 X does not include a viewfinder although you can attach the external Canon EVF-DC1, you also don’t have 4K (another point where Canon legs behind Sony/Panasonic) but at least you get the option to connect external mic and headphones as well a few other video improvements.

The new Canon PowerShot G3 X

PowerShot_G3_XThe most interesting part of the camera is possibly the long zoom lens. While it isn’t extremely fast (f/2.8-f/5.6) it does have a long reach (24-600mm equivalent or 8.8-220mm in actual focal length – which should be pretty decent if you are looking for a blurred background). This is the longest zoom that you currently have on any fixed lens camera with a large sensor (1″ and above).

Here are some of the main specs for the Canon PowerShot G3 X:

  • Sensor: 1″ size 20.2 Megapixel CMOS Sensor.
  • Processor: DIGIC 6 Image Processor.
