NiSi ATHENA Prime FF Cine Lineup Hands On (IBC 2023)

During IBC 2023 we had a chance to talk to Steve from NiSi about the company’s new line of Cine lenses called the NiSi ATHENA and some of its capabilities.

NiSi ATHENA Prime FF Cine Lineup

The NiSi ATHENA line currently includes 5 different Cine lenses: 14mm T2.4, 25mm T.19, 35mm T.19, 50mm T1.9 and an 85mm T.19.

All lenses have a front diameter of 80mm (with 77 filter thread), 10 aperture blades, fluorescent markings in feet and meters, and a close focusing distance (0.3, 0.5, and 0.8 depending on the specific lens).

They are all also the same weight (800g/28.2oz) and balance to make them much easier to swap when working on a gimbal (or even a fluid head).

All lenses have a 300-degree focus throw, 46mm image circle and they come in RF, E, and PL mounts.

One interesting addition to the RF and E mount variants is the inclusion of a drop-in filter mount in the back of each lens. NiSi is currently making different filters for this system including 6 levels of ND filters, VND, and white and black mist versions available.

Pricing and availability

The NiSi ATHENA lenses are already available for order and pricing ranges between $1200 and $1400 depending on the model and mount.
