Tether Tools Air Direct First Look

During Photo Plus 2019 which ended a while back, Tether Tools showcased its upcoming Air Direct wireless unit for transferring images from your camera to your computer faster than ever using 802.11AC Wi-Fi connection. In the video above, Adam Frimer from DIYphotography talks to a representative from Tether Tools who demos the functionality of this new device.

There are quite a few units that are designed to allow wireless transfer of images from the camera to a computer, the CamFi Pro Plus which has been around for a while and the newer CamRanger 2 Both supporting 5Ghz data transfer. Now Tether Tools is coming out with a solution of its own with fast transfer technology and cross-platform/software compatibility.

Here are some of the official features of the upcoming Air Direct:

• RAW and JPEG transfer to Mac/PC.
• Works with any Tethering Software that supports your camera (all major brands are supported).
• 802.11AC Wi-Fi connection
• USB-C technology.
• power options include LP-E6 battery, DC or USB
• Air Remote App (iOS / Android devices).
• Enables wireless camera control and simultaneous RAW + JPEG image transfer to the computer.

As for pricing, the Tether Tools Air Direct will cost $330.

One thing which isn’t clear from this interview and from the promotional material on the Tether Tools site is whether or not you use the Case Air for Live View and video (we are not expecting 4K recording to a computer, but Live View functionality and video record options should technically be possible we believe – but this is something we need to clear with Tether Tools).
