The Big 24-70mm F2.8 Lens Shootout (Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax)

On this extensive comparative video Chris Niccolls from from the Camera Store  and photographer  Jeremy Fokkens in Canada take a look at 4 different first part 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses (not 3’rd part on this video).

This is a very interesting comparison although you really have to keep in mind that what we are comparing here is not just lenses but bodies as well since Niccolls and Fokkens tested all 4 lenses on different camera bodies.

Fokkens test all 4 cameras and lenses shooting sports and Niccolls tests macro (where the Nikon seems best). On the sports side the Pentax really surprised Fokkens, the Sony was not ideal for the task (probably because of the body). Both the Nikon and Canon also performed well.

For the next section looking at sharpness for portrait the lenses were tested with adapters on a Sony A7RII body- and the GM Sony 24-70mm seems the best of the 4 (even wide open – although the 70mm was better than the 24mm). The Pentax was better in a 24mm but it is a bit soft overall. The Nikon was not amazing either wide open in the corners was a bit soft. The Canon on the other hand seems very good even wide open (even a bit better than the Sony).
