Accsoon TOPRIG 100W 4-Bay NP-F Fast Charger Review Best L-type battery charger?

Today we will be taking a look at a new quad NP-F battery charger by Accsoon. This unit promises not only fast charging but also a large color information screen lacking from competing products. How well does it work? Let’s take a closer look.

About Accsoon

We have tested several products by Accsoon in the past, most recently the company’s slider which we still use quite often in the studio. Hence, we were quite excited to hear that the company got into the battery charging business.

In the box

In the box you get the unit itself, a 100W fast charging 1m USB-C cable, and the manual.

In-the-boxBuild and design

The unit is very compact at just over 11cm (just under 4.5”) long, 8.5cm wide (a little under 3.5”), and a little under 2cm (0.7”) thick. It is also very lightweight at 190g (6.7 oz) making it a super portable solution.

The charger is made from hard plastic but has a metal base with cooling fins and rubber anti-skid lines.

back of the unitOn the front, you have the USB-C port and a single-mode button. This button switches between a safe charge mode that goes up to 0.6a and 20W (for all 4 bays) and fast mode with up to 2.7a and 90W, at least on paper – we will look into this in the next section.

There is also an “activation” mode which is designed to revive batteries that seem to be dead. a long press of the button will change to that mode which should quickly activate the battery and another long press will get back to the normal charging mode and allow the user to charge the battery.

The color screen is really nice, large and bright. The text is very clear and for each battery, you can see the charge state in ampere, watts, and percentage. You can also see the power source’s maximum wattage which is a nice touch.

Bright-screenTest

On paper the charger looks perfect but how does it perform? This is what we wanted to test.

We tested charging a single NP-F970 battery and it took over two and a half hours at a rate of around 18W-20W and 2.5a using the charger’s smart mode.

We can’t give a specific charge time for charging 4 batteries at once as we don’t have 4 identical ones and we also discovered that charging from a fully depleted state extends the charge for some reason.

We did run into all sorts of anomalies. We had batteries that didn’t want to charge or took many hours to go from 99% to 100%, this might of course be something to do with our batteries some of which are quite old and not from known brands.

We also had batteries that showed different charge levels on the charger compared to what the battery was showing (or what other chargers were showing us).

Conclusion

There is a lot to like about the Accsoon TOPRIG charger, it’s small, light, and compact, doesn’t run too hot (the fins do get hot but not the front of the unit) or make any noise, and it has a clear large screen and can charge up to four batteries at the same time.

The charger was not super-fast and based on our tests it needed between an hour and three hours for a single battery depending on the type.

There are a few things would like to see improved. The USB-C should have been located on the back of the unit. We would also like to see some sort of optional sound indication for the charger when a battery is done charging as we don’t like to leave batteries inside the charger when they are done.

There are also all those strange charge readings that don’t seem to be all that accurate but, sadly this might be a problem with most if not all chargers.

All in all, for the price this charger is hard to beat.
