During IBC 2023 we have seen many different teleprompters from all sorts of brands. One that really caught our eye was developed by Moman (a sister company to SYNCO COLBOR) and the unique part about it is that when you are using it you do not only see the text that you (or the talent ) need to read but it also functions as a screen where you can see yourself.
Teleprompter and a Self Dislpay
One of the issues we always face when using a teleprompter is seeing ourselves or letting the talent see his/her image as they talks to the camera.
Although there are many options that include a front-facing monitor, this monitor can never be exactly where the camera is. This leads to a problem where the talent is not looking directly into the camera all the time.
The Moman 16″ Teleprompter brings something new to the table using software. The teleprompter uses an iPad which does not only project the text onto the half-transparent screen but also projects the image coming from the camera using a wireless transmitter that connects to the tablet.
The Moman app knows how to combine both the text and the image from the camera to create a useful combination in real-time.
Although we see this system as very useful for different types of teleprompter users, Moman designed this system for solo creators who want a single solution for shooting, reading, and viewing themselves. At the moment this is only available for iPad users (we hope that an Android version will be available in the future).
The system has several components including the teleprompter itself (in this case a 16″ one), a wireless HDMI or HDMI+SDI wireless transmitter as well as some optional accessories such as a v-battery which can let the user know what is the ramining runtime of the setup.
There is even a small wireless knob that can control the lighting on the talent if connected to a COLBOR light (an app is also an option and it can do even more stuff like changing the background lights based on color).
Pricing and availability
The setup shown in the video should already be available on most markets and the transmitter which is necessary for the system to work sells for around 450 Euros (around the same in USD) and the 16″teleprompter is around 250 Euros.
