The global pandemic seems to have at least some advantages. Canon decided to make its beta version of its EOS Webcam software publically available and if you have a relatively recent Canon camera you can use a USB cable to connect it as a webcam to your favorite software on your computer.
Even the best consumer webcams are far behind the image quality and focus accuracy of modern cameras. If you have any need for outstanding image quality when doing web conferencing, business online face to face chats or anything else where you need high image quality while you are online the new solution by Canon might be your best option.
All you need to make this work is one of the cameras in the list below (sadly many older cameras don’t work – this could have been amazing as even an old camera that you are not using can still be a fantastic webcam) and the Canon beta software which you can download from this link (just click your specific camera in the link). Please note that as far as we can tell this only work at the moment with Windows 10 64bit so if you are using an older version of Windows or Mac you might be out of luck.
