Blind Test: Top 5 Smartphone Cameras of 2018

Smartphones have been improving considerably in recent years when it comes to image quality and considering the fact that sensor size in smartphones didn’t change much the image quality that we are getting from them in 2018 – especially the higher end ones is quite astonishing. On this video tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) looks at 5 of the leading camera phones and let us decide which produces the best overall images.

Marques did a side by side comparison test and we can look and try and pick our own best overall winner. Each shoot was meant to look at a different aspect (color accuracy, white balance, dynamic range, processing, background separation etc.).

The phones in this test are (not in the order they are in the video – we don’t want to spoil the fun) are:

  • Galaxy S9+
  • Pixel 2 XL
  • iPhone X
  • OnePlus 6
  • Huawei P20 Pro

Our suggestion is that you pause for each test (in full-screen max resolution) and write down your pick. Do this for each test and pick the overall winner. Our personal choices were C and E (you might have a different inclination and that is perfectly fine).

You can check out the actual letters and phones around 6:30 and Marques will also tell you what he thinks around that time in the video (although he actually reveals that in the beginning as well).
