During the past week camera bag manufacturer Lowepro introduced a new high end luxury camera bag series called Echelon. Jaron Schneider from Resource Magazine had a chance to try out the new bags and come back with some initial impressions.
Although other manufacturers such as Manfrotto for example have been creating luxury camera bags for a few years now, this is Lowepro’s first attempt at this market segment (which in our view isn’t that big actually). The Echelon series has 3 members all with custom-cast metal hardware, stitched leather handles, 840 denier black nylon fabric, , TSA approved locks and a removable all weather cover for when weather isn’t your friend.

The Echelon 3 members are:
- Echelon Roller: a full size rolling bag (only 2 wheels sadly) that can carry up to 2 pro bodies with 5-8 lenses and lots of accessories as well as a 15″ laptop. Price: $800.
- Echelon attaché – a rather strange looking shoulder bag for a camera plus lens with a 13″ laptop and some accessories. Price: $420.
- Echelon brief – another (thinner/lighter) shoulder/hand bag for a 15″ laptop and accessories. Price: $340.
