If you love vlogging or just need a simple yet sturdy tabletop tripod that you can pack into almost any camera bag a new Kickstarter campaign called SwitchPod might be just what you have been looking for.
The SwitchPod is strong (all aluminum) so it can hold a lot of weight (much more than a Gorillapod for example) but it only weighs 11 ounces (315 grams) so you should not think twice about taking it with you. No less important is the way it folds on itself.
SwitchPod has a 1/4-20″ standard tripod screw on the top plus a tightening knob that will help you attach any camera/mic/light etc. in seconds (a really nice touch although we would probably still recommend attaching a ballhead for more flexibility if you are using it as a tripod or at least a quick release if you are only using it for vlogging). Another nice touch – there is a 1/4″ 20 thread on the legs which allows you to connect even more attachments (so a camera plus a mic or monitor for example).
SwitchPod is the brainchild of Pat Flynn and Caleb Wojcik and has been in development for quite a few months now (you might have seen some videos of SwitchPod prototypes last year).
The current Kickstarter already raised more than $60K and if you want to secure a unit from the early bird you can get one for just under $70.
