As more and more USB-C power-hungry devices reach the market we need more and more powerful chargers. Chargeasap recently announced a new Kickstarter campaign for the most powerful compact USB-C charger – the Zeus 270W GaN USB-C Charger.
Chargeasap has been developing power banks, chargers, magnetic power and data cables, and other devices for a number of years now with several very successful crowdfunding campaigns.
Their most recent project involves two power banks – the Flash Pro which we shall be testing today, designed primarily for Android users, and the Flash Pro Plus designed with Apple users in mind although as we shall see there is no reason not to use any of these units with any type of device.
The new Chargeasap Zeus
Chain of supply
Before we talk about Zeus it was important to us to clear up a few things about a previous project Chargeasap created a few years back which we also covered called the Omega GaN charger which received some criticism from backers who did not get their products.
For us, it was important to get answers from Chargeasap to understand what was going on and make sure that the company can indeed fulfill the orders for its new product.
Here is what Chargeasap told us:
Omega GaN charger was severely affected by supply chain disruptions caused by COVID, a factory that won’t produce our goods despite having paid as well as the ongoing global shortage in the supply of chips. While we have shipped the majority of the orders, there is a small percentage of backers that haven’t received them yet, however, we continue to keep them informed with regular updates as well as an offer to upgrade to this newer product. It’s unfortunate that many backers still don’t understand the nature of crowdfunding and think they are purchasing from Amazon.
Omega was our 10th campaign and prior to this, we had a great track record with all campaigns funded and shipped on time so we completely understand as customer trust is something we have worked extremely hard to build since our first campaign. Zeus will be our 11th campaign and we’ve learned some valuable lessons and will strive to make sure this is a smooth-running campaign. We’ve partnered up with a larger and much more experienced and professional factory we have worked with in the past on other campaigns that have shipped on time. Every single process of the production of Zeus from beginning to end will be completed within one factory to minimize the chance of delays that may occur when a process is outsourced.
As for those who did not get their products, Chargeasap gave us the following statement:
We’re still continuously shipping out orders. e.g. we just shipped out 1000+ orders and this coming fortnight we will be processing another 3000+ as we just received more stock from our factory. We keep all our backers updated via campaign updates so their readers should do the same to follow the progress
Zeus 270W GaN USB-C Charger
The Zeus improves upon the design of the previous Omega charger in almost any significant aspect.
While having a similar size to the previous model the Zeus boosts a whooping combined output of 270W (compared to 200W of the previous generation) including the main USB-C with a 140W output.
The second innovation is a small OLED screen that shows the user information about the charging status of each port. The screen on the Zeus should show you in real-time how the charge speed drops down as the battery on your device approaches 100% (to extend its life).
The Zeus has 3 USB-C PD ports and one USB-A (the Omega had two and two), this makes sense given how many more USB-C devices we see now in the market and provides the ability to add the extra output that the Zeus can give.
One last useful feature of the charger is the option to easily swap power connectors so you can take the Zeus with you around the world and not have any issues.
