Back in early January 2023 Panasonic introduced the LUMIX S5 II camera but at the same time, it promised to release a slightly modified version called the Panasonic LUMIX S5 IIX with more advanced video capabilities. Fast forward over 5 months and the new camera is here and we bring you info and some hands on.
Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX vs. Panasonic LUMIX S5II
The two cameras are basically identical externally apart from the black look of the LUMIX S5 IIX which has great writing on the buttons and no white Lumix logo on the front.
Cosmetics aside the main differences are in the actual capabilities of the camera, these include the following:
- Apple ProRes 4:2:2 HQ in HD (internal recording) and up to 4:2:2: at 5.8K externally (caution, the files are huge).
- Record 5.8K Apple ProRes (externally) to SSD via USB-C.
- ALL-Intra (internal) recording in all resolutions for smaller yet still very editable files.
- Apple ProRes RAW support to Atomos and Blackmagic RAW support.
- Live streaming from the camera via Ethernet (4K 60p), WIFI (1080p 60p), or USB-C (4K 30p) to a smartphone.
Other than that it seems that both the LUMIX S5 IIX and the existing LUMIX S5 II are very similar and you can read more about the LUMIX S5 II in our previous article here on LensVid.
Pricing and availability
The new Lumix S5 IIX will be available by the end of May for $2200 (about $200 more than the existing model).
