After a full week of big camera and lens announcements by Canon, Sony and Panasonic we finish off with a small (but no less interesting) announcement by Samyang who introduced a fourth “tiny” AF Sony lens – the 18MM F/2.8 FE AF.
After releasing the 35mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8 and 45mm f/1.8 lenses (which we are testing at the moment) we now have an ultra-wide-angle sister to this small and compact line of lenses for Sony FE lenses – the 18MM F/2.8 FE AF. This diminutive lens weighs only 145g / 5.1oz and is extremely compact (just like the 45mm f/1.8).
The new compact Samyang 18mm F/2.8 FE AF
The optical design is simple with 9 elements in 8 groups, with a 58mm filter thread and a 7 blade aperture and a 25cm/10″ minimum focus distance.
Pricing is very competitively set at $400 (although availability is not known at this point).
We will be publishing the Samaynd 45mm f/1.8 review here in the very near future so stay tuned.
