Corey Rich on the Creative Process in Yosemite National Park

On this Adorama video, photographer and director Corey Rich talks about his experience shooting the ascent of the Dawn Wall of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park by two of the world’s best mountain climbers – Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson.

Rich was one of the photographers who spent 10 days living on the side of El Capitan with his friends as he documented their historic ascent. In this video, Rich tells the story about how he captured what he sees as his most widely successful image from this adventure.

What is especially inspiring about this video is how Rich who already spent 10 days on the exact same spot with the same people doing the same things day in and day out was still able to find something new and different to shoot. For him, remaining open to the creative process (with a little help from some extraordinary evening light) was the most important part and what eventually led him to the image that he wanted to capture.

For Rich – “even if you think you’ve exhausted every scenario, never stop taking pictures and always be looking out for those rare fleeting moments before they pass you by”.

We have covered quite a few videos the deal with shooting extreme sports (many of them with Rich himself) which you can find on our extreme sports photography section. You can watch more videos of interesting photographers on our photographer section here on LensVid.
