ChargeAsap Zeus 270W GaN Charger Review Next GaN charger

Today we are taking a look at the most recent fast and powerful charger by ChargeAsap – the 270W ChargeAsap Zeus which includes an OLED monitor 4 ports and up to 140W support in its main USB-C one.

Chargeasap

ChargeAsap has been around since 2016. They’ve been innovating almost every year with their lineup of chargers and power banks, and have also added magnetic charging cables and other accessories.

Before we get into the video, there is an issue we need to address. First of all, this is not a sponsored video, and ChargeAsap has no say in what we say in this article/video. With the launch of some of ChargeAsap’s previous Kickstarter campaigns, some users complained about not receiving their product.

We’ve been working with a number of their products, so they are definitely real (some unscrupulous companies have been known to promote “vaporware” for support and disappear afterward, this is not the case here).

With that said it’s important for us to know that the products that we’re reviewing are legit, so we reached out to ChargeAsap for a statement regarding the fulfillment of their past orders. Here’s a part of their reply:

…[we were] severely affected by supply chain disruptions caused by COVID … [and the] global shortage in the supply of chips.

While we have shipped the majority of the orders, there is a small percentage of backers that haven’t received them yet.

We continue to keep them informed with regular updates as well as an offer to upgrade to this newer product. We’re still continuously shipping out orders.

… customer trust is something we have worked extremely hard to build since our first campaign. Zeus will be our 11th campaign and … we will strive to make sure this is a smooth-running campaign.

… Every single process of the production of Zeus from beginning to end will be completed within one factory to minimize the chance of delays.

With that being said, we advise that you do your own research when backing any crowdfunding project and decide for yourselves (based on as many sources as you can find) if the product that you want to back and the company behind it are worth investing your hard-earned cash in (remember, crowdfunding is not like buying a product from a store it’s much closer to investing and you can lose your money).

Gan technology

We’ve reviewed a number of ChargeAsap products in the last 2 years, and today we’re looking at the Zeus wall charger that promises to provide the highest output in a small form factor.

The small size of the Zeus charger is made possible by a smaller, faster, and more efficient semiconductor. This GaN technology allows packing the charger with better computing and components, in order to manage energy better, improving the unit’s overall lifespan.

In the box

ChargeAsap ships their charger in a simple cardboard box. Included in the kit are the charger itself, a carrying pouch, and 4 snap-on travel adapters (US, EU, AU, UK).

Build

The Zeus charger comes in a fire-resistant polycarbonate enclosure. It measures 8cm x 4cm x 2.5cm (adapters add another 3cm to the height). It’s not significantly bigger than a MacBook charger, and is definitely portable, even with its hefty 300g of weight.

The adapters feature a sliding quick-release system. They feel sturdy and are an improvement from the previous version.

On the back, Zeus comes with 2 100W USB-c ports, 1 140W USB-c port, and a 36W USB-a port. Another innovation here is the small screen to provide power readings for each port.

Features

With the Zeus output of 270W, you can charge 4 devices at the same time. All three of the USB-C ports are power delivery, and the USB-A port is fast charge rated.

ChargeAsap boasts that the Zeus is fully protected and includes a high-density heat sink and a graphene membrane to aid in heat dissipation. In use though, with all 4 ports charging [drawing over 200W], the unit gets pretty hot. We would advise keeping it in a ventilated area.

In use

We tested the Zeus with our ChargeAsap Flash 20000kWh power banks. Surprisingly, it took only 1 hour to charge them fully [through the 140W port]. The charger provided a sustained delivery of 84W to the power bank.

In our tests with two MacBook Air laptops, one with an empty battery, and one with a 50% battery, the delivery was just 24W for the second one but 44W for the empty battery.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Zeus charger is definitely portable and powerful. We have our concerns with the heat issue, but with all the circuit management inside, the charger is well protected.

Hopefully, ChargeAsap will make this a successful campaign and redeem their reputation, because we would love to see more of their products.

Pricing

As for pricing, the pledges for the Zeus Kickstarter project start at $120.
