iFootage Anglerfish 200BNA – Bi Color COB Light and 6FPL Fresnel Review No blue spike 200W Bi-Color light and a lightwight Fresnel

Today we are taking a look at a new 200W bi-color light by IFootage as well as a new 6FPL Fresnel. In this video, we take a closer look at the iFootage Anglerfish 200BNA and its performance with and without the new Fresnel.

Concept

Among all the other COB LED lights on the market, the selling factor for iFootage fixtures is the quality of the light they produce. [refer to our test results in our iFootage Anglerfish SL1 60DN LED review] We’ve reviewed two other lights from their Anglerfish series before, and today we’re taking a look at their new SL1 200BNA.

This is a bi-color light that puts out 200W of natural spectrum (bi-color) light while being relatively compact and lightweight. Coupled with this iFootage light intensifier fresnel, this little fixture can officially put out around 80,000 lux at 1 meter.

In the Box

IFootage ships this light without a carrying bag (strange especially since other less expensive iFootage lights we tested did come with a case). The kit includes a reflector a power brick and cable.

Build and Design

The 200 BNA is a pretty simple design similar to the 60DN that we reviewed back in 2022. It’s mostly made of metal, but weighs under 2kg, which makes it pretty portable. Even with the fresnel, it’s not too heavy to handle.

The light features a simple menu on the back with two clickable knobs for temperature and intensity control. The locking power input and the power button are also on the back.

Features (and Lack of such)

There is a plastic handle on the back of the light to help with mounting, but it has some sharp edges that limit how you can hold the light, and the power button gets in the way when you hold the light by the handle.

This on/off button is very plasticy and sensitive and is a bit of a nuisance. It should’ve been a regular tumbler or a rubber button.

The lightweight and well-built 6FPL Fresnel

Another design element that we would ask to change is the modifier release button. It’s on the bottom of the Bowens mount, and it’s a bit hard to get to, especially with a bigger modifier like the fresnel.

Other than that, the build is solid. iFootage has really shown over the years that they know how to do the main things extremely well. Like the metal foot with a solid metal angle tilt, a locking umbrella holder, and a ¼’’ mount with locating pins.

That’s why some design choices are really questionable, like this power brick with a cable to hang it off the stand. iFootage already made a V-mount holder for some of their existing power bricks on their other lights. Why not make it for all of them? Especially when you release new V-mount clamps like the new LC-01 (which we really like).

Ok, back to something really nice – the 6″ fresnel. It’s a solid build with hard plastic composites and a big glass front. The fresnel features a more diffused wide setting and a spotlight setting. The glass is pretty thick and it gets warm quickly [the top of the light body also gets hot, but nothing dangerous.], but not too hot to the touch.

We noticed that when using this fresnel on the light, the fans would come on more often to cool the light. This unit is cooled with powerful fans that can get kind of loud, especially when the light turns on. There is a quiet fan setting in the light menu, but it limits the light output to 40%.

Controls

The controls and menu on this light are basically the same as the SL1-60DN. The temperature ranges from 2700K to 6500K. Long press the dimmer knob to access a menu with 11 customizable effects.

While the menu isn’t very exciting, the iFootage Lumin app is. It’s well-designed, works seamlessly, and offers useful features, like a settings lock and a lighting diagram.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the iFootage 200BNA is a great addition to their lineup, offering a portable fixture providing quality light and some serious output with the fresnel light intensifier. There are a few mechanical details that could be improved, but they don’t really get in the way. What’s important here is that iFootage got all the main features right.
