Love it or hate it, smartphones are the number one technology for shooting and filming around the world by a very large margin. However, shooting via a smartphone isn’t ideal not just because of the image quality (which is getting better each year) but because a smartphone might be convenient to talk with but shooting with it is far from ideal ergonomically.
There have been many devices in recent years that provide better ergonomics and functionality when shooting with a smartphone. Last year we covered the miggo pictar which is an interesting device but limited to Apple. The Grip & Shoot Cage is a new project on Kickstarter which combines a lot of options which exist in other products including a remote start/stop buttons (via BT) on the removable handle, lens adaptor, tripod connectors and 3 different mounting points for accessories such as a handle, lights and a mic and a framer made from aluminium.
Probably the biggest downside of this interesting product is the price. For around $275, this is a lot of money for something that will still only allow you to shoot with a smartphone and does not provide extra stability (at least not anything like a motorized gimbal).
However, if you do what to mount a lot of accessories and want to control the smartphone remotely this cage can actually be an option.
