NAB 2023 is over but the show was an opportunity for countless manufacturers to demonstrate their new lighting products, many of them this year have RGB capabilities. The following is a summery of some of the main new lights shown at NAB this year (it’s a big show so this is far from an exhaustive roundup of course).
Aputure
Aputure introduced two new RGBWW full-color COB lights – the Amaran 150c and Amaran 300c during NAB. They boost a temperature range of 2,500K to 7,500K and a simple design with two knobs in the back and monitor
Both lights have 10 Custom FX and 10 Music FX presets advanced heat sink and a silent active cooling system.
Aputure also announced some interesting accessories in the form of a new Spotlight SE projection lens and Light Dome Mini SE light modifiers to go along with them.
For power, you can use AC or a 48V DC power input using two Gold or V-mount batteries via the optional Aputure 2-bay Battery Power Station.
Pricing for the Amaran 150c and Amaran 300c is set at $360 and $570 respectively.

Nanlite/Nanlux
We already covered the Nanlux Evoke 900C RGB LED Spot Light announced only a few days before NAB (you can read more about it in our article) but suffice it to say that it is one of the most powerful COB RGB lights on the market at the moment and the most powerful RGB light by Nanlux.
The light might not be as powerful as the mighty Evoke 1200B (which can output a blinding 61,030 lux at 3 meters) but it is still a very capable light even at these distances with an official output of 12,940 lux at 3m (just for comparison the Aputure LS 600c Pro only does around 5000 lux at this distance both with the included reflector).
The Evoke 900C is a top-end professional light aimed at larger productions and as such it is more expensive than even the existing Evoke 1200/B variants and can be pre-ordered for $4660.

Godox
We have already covered the new SZ300R RGB COB light introduced just before NAB, but the company was not done with this light for the show. It also showcased its relatively new MG1200Bi color light (we have seen an early prototype of this light back in IBC 2022 last year but now it is ready for prime time).
But there is more. The company introduced for the first time a Knowled P600Bi Hard LED panel light. This one is really a marvel of engineering able to squeeze into a 1×1 form factor a 700W panel (we are not aware of anything even close to that on the market).
This light supports wireless DMX, it can be powered by two high-power draw V-mount batteries (not 14V), and while there is still no official pricing it should be around $1200 and be available around June 2023.
Besides the new high-power panel there are some new flexible LED panels from Godox in 2×2, 2×4, and 4×4 sizes. They can be adjusted between 2700K to 8500K and at the moment there is no info on pricing or availability.

Kelvin
Last year the Norwegian manufacturer Rift labs announced one of the most unique COB LEDs on the market in the form of the Kelvin Epos 300 COB (see our article).
The upcoming EPOS 600 COB will be its bigger 600W RGBACL COB brother to the original light with the same unique exterior, IP54-certified weather resistance, broad color temperature of 2000 to 20,000K, 5″ TFT LCD display, support for 2 V-mount battery plates, built-in Wireless DMX, and BT control via app, 93° beam angle and a huge output of 82,810 Lux at 1m according to the manufacturer.
The light should be available by the end of the year, selling for around $2800.

BB&S
During NAB, BB&S, a Danish manufacturer showcased a new Reflect 4-Bank Remote Phosphor System, part of its family of studio lighting. There are not a lot of Remote Phosphor lighting manufacturers but BB&S has been working on perfecting the technology for decades.
The main advantages of Remote Phosphor technology according to BB&S is their color accuracy, especially when it comes to skin tones, and the ability to stay consistent in terms of accuracy even at longer distances.
Most BB&S products are used in higher-end productions (the film industry, broadcast, etc.) and you can see a lot of their lights in large grids, and lighting walls.
The new family has 1 and 2-foot variants with a temperature of 3200 to 5600K and there is a bi-color variant with a 2700°K-6000°K temperature. Pricing for the new family is not set yet (but it was mentioned that it should be somewhere around $750-$1200).

fiilex
Although we could not find a video for you about this product, fiilex demonstrated a new and very interesting 90W Color Ellipsoidal LED Light called the G3 which has a uniquely designed rotating lens system for making fast and precise lighting adjustments. This very compact projector-like unit has 19° and 36° lens options and from what we have seen it can produce very accurate projections (we will try and bring you some more info about this interesting light soon).

Z CAM
Most people are familiar with Z cam as a compact cinema camera manufacturer, however, in the past few years the company has been developing its professional lighting line as well.
In NAB 2023 the company showcased several new products including its Zolar Blade 60C which is a very thin panel with pixels (in 6 zones) in RGBAW that has a 150W power draw and some interesting mounting options in the back designed specifically for be mounted in a set of several lights and has programable options to create effects.
At the moment there is no availability or pricing but these should be coming very soon.
LuminArc Active Diffusion
While not exactly a light, we simply had to also include this coverage of the LuminArc Active Diffusion which is currently still under development but is one of the most interesting innovations in the lighting industry in years.
The ability to control the diffusion of light using an electronic diffusion is a technology that has been slowly entering the market in recent years (mostly via diffusion elements on some higher-end lights) but LuminArc is taking the same technology and implementing it (the technology is known as PDLC)
LuminArc was able to solve some of the initial issues with the technology, prevent the color shift, and eliminate some flickering issues that existed in the basic form of the technology.
LuminArc Active Diffusion will come in two sizes 40×40 and 24×36 (with plans for 4×4 and 6×6 in the future) It can reduce between 1-1.5 stops of light and should have at most around 80K color shift (which is basically negligible). The unit can be powered via AC or a V-Mount battery and has a very low power consumption so you can go all day long with a small V-mount.
Pricing is going to be $1900 and the larger one $3300 and they should be available in the next two months (more info can be found on the company’s site).
We have already been in talks with LuminArc and hope to bring you our own review of this technology as soon as it becomes available.
