Bella Kotak: The Magic You Want to Hold Onto

SmugMug Films make some of the most unique behind the scenes look at the work of different photographers and in their latest video, they follow a project by fine art fashion photographer Bella Kotak which isn’t just a photographer but an artist which include choosing or even making the clothing, props, makeup for her models, and for the perfect vision of her compositions.

Kotak’s images are almost like something you can find in a fairy tale and as close as you can to fantasy story in an image format. She loves taking pictures of younger models (female and male) transforming from children to adults.

Many of her images are shot outdoors in the woods forcing the magical atmosphere. Sher uses a phase one camera and uses both natural light together

Kotak started as an architect and although she never felt fulfilled by that career it did get her into Photoshop and eventually into photography where she found her calling and as she explains in the video she wants every image she makes to take the viewer into a different world – to escape – even for a moment from his or her’s reality into another, magical one.

Editing is not something Kotak shy away from, in fact, she seems it as a major part of her artistic vision which is helping her translate her own thoughts into a tangible form.

Kotak is based in both Oxford and London and is an ambassador for Phase One, SmugMug, Canson Paper, and Vanguard.

Her style of shooting reminds us of several other inspiring female photographers including Kirsty Mitchell, Alexia Sinclair, Miss Aniela and Adrien Broom who all seem to share a vision of photographic dream/fantasy with a lot of careful attention to details.

As always, you can find many more behind the scenes videos on the BTS section here on LensVid and more profiles and amazing photographers on our photographer’s section. You can also check out some of the other SmugMug videos here.
