Earlier today Samsung released a new mini mirrorless camera from its NX series. However, unlike all existing NX cameras, the new NX mini doesn’t use an APS-C sensor but a rather smaller 1″ sensor (the same size used on the Sony RX100 II and the Nikon 1 line of cameras).
The new NX mini is currently the smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera on the market weighing only 158g and measuring only 22.5mm thin.
Samsung used a 20.5MP BSI CMOS Sensor (1 inch), and included a flip-up 3″ touch display for those selfies , and NFC/WiFi for connectivity.
The camera can shoot up to 6 frames per second and video as high as 1080p @60p. Maybe the biggest selling point other than the small size is the price – only $450 for the camera + the 9mm lens (see below) on B&H.
Samsung needed to create a new line of lenses (called NX-M) to accommodate the smaller sensor camera. So far the company released 3 new lenses (and will also release an adapter for its regular NX lenses):
- NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED lens – a wide angle lens (24mm in 35mm equivalent).
- NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS lens – a wide to short telephoto stabilized zoom lens (24-73mm in 35mm equivalent).
- NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lens – a fast normal stabilized prime lens (45mm in 35mm equivalent).
